Apple Crisp

We love apple crisp so much in our house we make it year-round.  There’s no way we could wait for Fall to roll around to make it.  Not to mention, with it being such an easy recipe to throw together, there’s really no excuse!  When I say easy, I mean easy.  It’s so easy, I’m pretty sure Vendela, our 6-year-old, could pull it off on her own aside from not being able to get it in the oven.  Every Taylor girl gets in the mix and before much time has passed, the scent of cinnamon and apple are filling the air.

Ingredients

Filling:

8-10 green apples, Granny Smith

½ C white sugar

½ C brown sugar

2 t cinnamon

¼ t nutmeg

1 T flour

Topping:

1 C old fashioned oats

1 C flour

1 C brown sugar

½ t salt

1 stick butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Butter 9x13 baking dish.  Peel, core and cut green apples into 1 inch cubes.

Toss apples with sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until combined.

I’m not going to lie… this is the point where we all start eating pieces of apple.  After you’ve had your fill, pour into baking dish.

For the topping, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.  Cut in butter until mixture is pea size.

Using hands, take handfuls of mixture, give a squeeze, and sprinkle over apples until they’re so buried in topping they can’t be seen.  I love getting some larger chunks of topping on there!  The girls always go for the big pieces of crunchy topping.

Bake 50-60 minutes until the topping has browned and the apples are bubbling.  Serve warm alone or with vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream.

Happy baking and enjoy!!

Xoxo,

Inger
